WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits

Melbourne Wine School is proud to offer the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Spirits.

​

The Level 2 Award in Spirits is a professional level course designed to offer a thorough knowledge of the spirits and liqueurs of the world.  This course provides students a history of spirits and production techniques of spirits. The focus is on Cognac, Armagnac, brandies, Scotch, Bourbon and whiskeys, vodka, rum, tequila, gin, liqueurs and other flavoured spirits.

Providing a great introduction to spirits, this globally recognised qualification is suitable for both industry professionals and enthusiasts. No previous knowledge or tasting experience is necessary, and you do not have to have achieved the Level 1 Award in Spirits to enrol onto the Level 2 Award.

Key Information​

Course Overview:
The Level 2 Award in Spirits will teach you about the fundamentals of the world of spirits, covering topics such as:

 

  • How are spirits made

  • What factors influence spirit style

  • The characteristics of key spirits and liqueurs

  • The important spirit-producing regions of the world

  • How production methods affect the characteristics of spirits and liqueurs
  • Labelling terminology
  • What are food and spirit pairing principles

  • Learn how to describe spirits using the WSET SAT in spirits

Course Duration:

Our WSET Level 2 courses are delivered in three different formats:
 

  • Weekly courses, held evenings from 6pm to 8.30pm over a 8-week period;

  • Intensive courses spread over 3 weekdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm;

  • Intensive courses held over 3 consecutive Saturdays from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

All WSET Level 2 courses in spirits consist of a minimum of 14 hours of tuition.
Please note that an addition 11 hours of personal study and revision is highly recommended.

​

Assessment:

Students will sit a closed-book, multiple choice exam consisting of 50 questions.
This exam will be sat during the final session of the course.
Successful completion of the exam will lead to the internationally recognised WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits.

 

Entry Requirements:

You must be of legal drinking age (18) to participate in this course.
There are no other requirements for entry.
