WSET Level 2 Award in Wines

Melbourne Wine School is proud to offer the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Wines.

Providing a great introduction to wine, this globally recognised qualification is suitable for both wine industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. No previous wine knowledge or wine tasting experience is necessary.


The course provides a structured learning environment to introduce you to the major grape varieties and international wine standards. There is also a focus on European wine styles, so it is perfect for anyone looking to broaden their horizons and gain a more international appreciation of wine.

Course Overview: The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines will teach you about the fundamentals of the world of wine, covering topics such as:

  • How wine is made;

  • The major white and black grape varieties and the major wine-producing regions in the world;

  • How to read and understand wine labels;

  • How to describe wine (tasting);

  • Pairing food and wine;

  • An introduction to sweet and fortified wines.

Please note that the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines builds on the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines, however you don't need to have completed the WSET Level 1 Award to sit the Level 2 course.

Course Duration: Our WSET Level 2 courses are delivered in three different formats:

  • Weekly courses, held Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 8.30pm over a 9-week period;

  • Intensive courses spread over 3 weekdays from 10am to 4pm;

  • Intensive courses held over 3 consecutive Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

All WSET Level 2 courses consist of a minimum of 16 hours of tuition. Please note that an addition 11 hours of personal study and revision is recommended.

Assessment: Students will sit a closed-book, multiple choice exam consisting of 50 questions. This exam will be sat during the final session of the course. Successful completion of the exam will lead to the internationally recognised WSET Level 2 Award in Wines.


Entry Requirements: You must be of legal drinking age (18) to participate in this course. There are no other requirements for entry.


Cost: $850 (inclusive of WSET Level 2 study guide, tasting glasses, and examination fee).


Location: All classes are held at The Circle Collingwood, which is accessible by public transport and car.  Nearby train, tram, and car parking spaces can be found here.
