WSET Level 1 Award in Wines

Melbourne Wine School is proud to offer the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1 Award in Wines.

​

For individuals new to wine study, this qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, and make food and wine pairings.

​

A beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine. No previous wine knowledge or wine tasting experience is necessary.

You do not need to complete the Level 1 Award in Wines to be eligible for the WSET Level 2.You may enrol directly onto the Level 2 if you prefer.

Course Overview:

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines covers topics such as:

  • The main types and styles of wine

  • Common wine grapes and their characteristics

  • How to store and serve wine

  • The principles of food and wine pairing

  • How to describe wine using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine

Course Duration:

The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines is a day-long course that runs from 9:00am - 5:00pm.

​

Assessment:

Students will sit a closed-book, multiple choice exam consisting of 30 questions. This exam will be sat at the end of the day's course. Successful completion of the exam will lead to the internationally recognised WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.

​

Entry Requirements:

You must be of legal drinking age (18) to participate in this course. There are no other requirements for entry.

​

All classes are held at Inspire9 1/41-43 Stewart Street, Richmond VIC 3121
