Join us for an evening as we unearth the most regal white grape variety favoured by wine professionals all over the world. We have hand selected a line up of mouth-watering and complex Rieslings from its spiritual homeland of Germany, followed by styles from Austria and Alsace and further afield in countries such as Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and the USA.

Riesling
Wine made from Riesling is quite unlike any other. It is generally lighter in alcohol, refreshingly high in fruity natural acidity and has the ability to showcase the character of a place through its extract and unique aroma. It is long proven that Riesling is capable of ageing for decades in bottle much like top quality Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, but unlike Chardonnay, it performs best if fermented cool and bottled early without any additional winemaking influences.

Riesling is great not just because it is so exceptionally good at expressing its environment but also because it makes white wines that are so good at ageing, gaining complexity along the way and a fine Riesling almost demands time in bottle! They can be austere in youth but to many, the prospect of a 50-year-old Riesling can be both appetising and rewarding, not to mention far easier on the wallet whereas finding the same number of white Burgundies that fit similar categories is extremely small.

Riesling spent much of the 1990s and 2000s on the side-lines, due to the quantity of cheap Liebfraumilch, tarnishing Riesling’s reputation. Nowadays a Riesling revival is well underway. Great examples are produced all over the world, from the Eden and Clare Valley's in Australia to New Zealand and South America – and not forgetting the classic Rieslings from the Mosel and Rheingau in Germany, Wachau in Austria and Alsace in France.
